No time for books? Librarywala is at your service

Karishma Merchant is your regular Mumbaikar, who works long hours and gets home late evening. She's a book lover too but never has the time to go buy them or visit a library, until she chanced upon – an online library service that works just like a regular library, except that they deliver and pick up the books from your doorstep.

“It's really convenient because I don’t have to go anywhere and it’s quite affordable too,” Merchant said.

Here is how it works – sign up for the plan most convenient to you, the cheapest is Rs 139 per month for three books. Then log on and choose your book. At the librarywala office, your request is picked up and within a day your book is on its way.

The librarywala delivery boy also takes back the book you had borrowed earlier.

This online library is the brainchild of six friends who found it difficult to access expensive books in their college days. Now each one contributes a part of their salary from their other jobs to keep this online portal running.

“We wanted people to have books at affordable rates. Also in Mumbai people don’t have the time for such things so we wanted to make it convenient,” Managing Director of Hiten Turakhia said.

Librarywala currently has 8,700 books from over 10 categories with more than 1,100 subscribers. They just started operations in Bangalore also. So if your new year's resolution is to read more then this may be a step in the right direction.
